Welcome RLS families,

It’s great to see our old friends again and to welcome new friends to our RLS family!

We hope this information will assist you in becoming familiar and comfortable with the Stevenson volunteer group.  If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to any of one of our RLS Fundraising Group POCs.

Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary School of the Arts is a School of Choice that provides a quality education while fostering a dynamic and intellectually charged learning environment for students in Brevard County. By combining specialized curriculum in the arts with core traditional teaching of the academic subjects in reading, mathematics, writing, and science, Stevenson offers a safe and nurturing environment for students in kindergarten though sixth grade.  We are proud of our active and talented families whose generosity enables Stevenson students to excel in technology, research and development, and innovation – truly the skills necessary for global competition while connecting our children to a successful future.

Our RLS family has volunteers of all ages from grandparents to siblings, who work together to create family -oriented events to bring our community together and fund-raise for special projects to enhance the learning environment of our school. We invite you to collaborate with us on one or more of our projects during the school year. Your generosity of time and resources will benefit so many, because it is really all about changing the lives of others – and in our case – our students.

How can you get involved?

The RLS Fundraising Group is our 501(c)(3) parent organization whose purpose is to support the efforts of the school leadership, faculty, and staff via fundraising efforts and volunteerism. The School Advisory Committee (SAC) is comprised of a group of teachers, parents, administration, community members, and office personnel that come together nearly every month during the academic year to discuss the direction the school is heading in for the current school year. SAC meetings take place on the THIRD TUESDAY of each month; all families are invited and encouraged to attend. SAC members work very hard to support the school’s academic initiatives as well as the many enrichment type activities that are offered. For more information on SAC, please see the school website.

Our goals as a parent group include:

  • Planning and implementing fundraising activities that help us meet our commitment to supporting our dance and drama programs, 21st century technological enhancements, and curriculum enhancements via teacher education and resources.
  • Providing support to the faculty and staff through our strong network of volunteers and class liaisons.

The volunteer group communicates in the following ways:

  • Monthly volunteer/liaison meetings to share school news, volunteer opportunities, fundraising events and goals, plus district, state, and legislative information.
  • Penguin Volunteer News page on our volunteer website
  • RLS Volunteer Facebook page
  • Sign up genius is sent out on a regular basis with volunteer activities and take home opportunities.
  • Monthly school/volunteer email from the class liaison

What makes our volunteer program so successful is your contribution of 20-hour volunteer hours (or more!).  Each family is welcome to volunteer in the school, complete take home work, and by attending meetings at school or within the district. Parent volunteers are encouraged to become school leaders both within and beyond our school. Some of our activities where volunteers are requested include: Career Day, Field Day, Jog-a-thon, Penguin Palooza, Car Loop, Performance Costume Design, Performance Assistance, Picture Day, Scholastic Book Fair, Science Fair, Teacher Appreciation Week, etc.

Our Parent Partner Program is a yearly fundraising effort that our families become part of by a tax-deductible donation to the parent volunteer group. Based on the level of giving you choose, various perks are provided.  This program is available all year, however, we encourage early participation to fully enjoy the benefits.

We are proud of our arts program which provides so many opportunities for your child. From band and orchestra education with opportunities to play at a variety of on and off-site venues depending on grade level, to our fabulous full-length dance and drama productions, and artistic endeavors such as stop-motion animation, 3-D projects in a variety of mediums, all while engaging in discussions about art history and technology, there is a place for your child.  Combine this with the infusion of science, cutting edge technology, math theory and application, and you will find the focus on S.T.E.A.M…education focused on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

We are so proud of what RLS has to offer and are excited to share the 2023 – 2024 school year with your family.
