Celebrate Literacy Week: January 22 – 26

The Just Read, Florida! Office and the Florida Department of Education (FDOE), in partnership with other FDOE offices, school districts, state organizations and agencies, are planning the tenth annual statewide Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! 2018 events. Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! 2018 is scheduled for the week of January 22-26, 2018, so mark your calendars now for this important week of events.

The goal of this year’s Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! is to promote literacy and excellent reading habits in the students of Florida.

Monday, January 22 – Kicking it off with Good Reading Habits – Students may wear crazy socks with their uniform.

Tuesday, January 23 – Poem in Your Pocket Day – Teachers will distribute grade level appropriate poems to students or students can bring a poem from home. Throughout the day, students will read their poem to peers, teachers, and staff when they are asked about their poem.

Wednesday, January 24 – Reading is Everywhere – Read My Shirt Day – Students may wear a shirt that their classmates can read (students must wear uniform bottoms).

Thursday – #RLSReads Bookmark Swap – Students will create and/or color a bookmark in class with #RLSReads on the back. Bookmarks will be laminated and exchanged throughout the school year.

Friday – Today’s Readers, Tomorrow’s Leaders – Students will wear their Blue Ribbon T-Shirt to show that they’re a reader and one of tomorrow’s leaders!
